Google announces new feature to detect AI-generated images

Google Search has announced two new features that are designed to make it easier for users to comprehend the context and content of the image they are viewing in the search results.

According to the company, the new features are an expansion of its current work that aims to increase visual literacy and make it easier for consumers to determine whether an image is authentic or artificially made.

Kayefi team understands that Google is beginning to address the possibility of false information originating from AI-generated photos.

The first new addition, arriving in the “coming months,” will introduce more context about images in an “About this image” feature.

The functionality, however, will initially only be available in the United States and in English.

A second new feature will make sure that all Google’s own AI-generated photos have a markup in the original file that provides users with context if the image is accessible outside of Google’s platforms as the company rolls out its own generative image capabilities.
