PSC Chairman Dr Solomon Arase Vows to Build an Attractive Nigeria Police Force for Youths

Vision for a Revitalized Police Force: Dr Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and former Inspector-General of Police, is determined to create a new Nigeria Police Force that will once again be appealing to the youth. In less than two months since assuming office, he has successfully fostered a harmonious working relationship between the PSC and the NPF, emphasizing collaboration and shared objectives rather than competition.

Strengthening Partnerships: Dr Arase has been actively engaging international donor agencies and other stakeholders in the police sector to enhance the capacity of the PSC as an oversight body and bolster the capabilities of the police as the lead agency in internal security. These efforts have yielded positive results, with Dr Arase expressing satisfaction in receiving receptive ears and making substantial progress. His vision for the police force is centered on building an institution that will be a source of national pride.

Career Progression and Disciplinary Matters: Dr Arase commended the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, for addressing the issue of stagnation in the career progression of junior police officers. As part of the powers delegated to the IG by the commission, promotions from constable to sergeant have been prioritized, ensuring that officers do not remain stagnant in rank without disciplinary issues affecting them. Dr Arase has also focused on clearing pending disciplinary matters within the commission to facilitate unhindered career progression for officers.
