Attahiru Bafarawa, a former governor of Sokoto State and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has spoken out against comments made by Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.
In a recent interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC), El-Rufai stated that there are no elders left in northern Nigeria, which Bafarawa sees as an insult to the region. He emphasized that there were still good leaders in the North and criticized El-Rufai for suggesting otherwise.
Bafarawa also took issue with El-Rufai’s promotion of the All Progressives Congress and support for Bola Tinubu as a candidate in the 2023 general elections.
He argues that everyone has the right to support their own preferred candidate and that the North will surprise everyone in the election. He declared that the country and the North belong to no one person or party.
