In a remarkable display of culinary prowess, renowned Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Chef Hilda Baci, has set her sights on surpassing the current Guinness World Record holder. With her extraordinary feat, Baci is on the verge of breaking the record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual,” having already reached the impressive milestone of 87 hours and 50 minutes.
The epic cooking marathon commenced on a Thursday afternoon when Chef Hilda Baci turned on her cooker at 4 pm, and by Monday morning, she had exceeded the current world record holder’s mark. Lata Tondon, an Indian chef, achieved the feat in 2019 with an uninterrupted cooking marathon lasting 87 hours and 45 minutes. However, if certified by the Guinness World Record, Baci will emerge as the new reigning champion, toppling Tondon’s record.

For the past 5 days , Nigeria has been gripped by the amazing feat of this outstanding young Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci seeking to break, and set a new Guiness World Record for a cooking marathon which previously stood at 87 hours, and 45 minutes.
This phenomenon currently happening in Lagos, has attracted celebrities, entertainers, church people offering prayers, the State Governor, and regular folk from far and wide who want to witness history being made. Social media is agog with updates where #GoHilda is trending. People are keeping a vigil through the night while Hilda toiled, defying the laws of nature to accomplish her goal.
Now she has broken the record, the whole country is celebrating, the politicians, and government will soon claim credit. They will probably award her national honors.
No one will ask, or remember which part of Nigeria the Akwa Ibom native is from. No one will tell her to return to her home state as non Yorubas are not welcome in Lagos.
Let those who seek to divide us chew on that!!
