A Revolutionary Step for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Downstream Sector: Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Group, unveiled a groundbreaking achievement in Nigeria’s oil and gas downstream sector during the commissioning ceremony of the integrated refinery project in Lagos State’s Lekki free trade zone. Dangote emphasized that this milestone marked a new and exciting trajectory for the nation.
Transitioning from Importer to Exporter: Inspired by the remarkable success achieved in the cement and fertilizer markets, Dangote pledged to replicate the same triumph in the petroleum sector. He expressed unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria from the largest importer of crude products to a net exporter, thus eliminating import dependency and eradicating the presence of toxic substandard petroleum products in the market.
Timely Product Availability and Export Competitiveness: Dangote confidently stated that the first tranche of products from the refinery would be available in the market by the end of July or early August this year. He further emphasized that the refinery would operate at the highest capacity utilization and efficiency to enable competitive exports to other markets. With the ability to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, the refinery will produce a range of high-quality petroleum products, including Euro-V gasoline and diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene, utilizing various types of crude oils from Africa, the Middle East, and the United States.
