EFCC Investigation concerning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Hadi Sirika, the former Minister of Aviation, to appear before the commission regarding the launch of Nigerian Air, which took place in Abuja using a chartered Ethiopian aircraft. The anti-graft agency has already questioned officials from the national carrier as part of their investigation.
Probe into Project Expenditure, The EFCC’s investigation will focus on the alleged N3 billion investment in the Nigerian Air project, although some stakeholders claim that over N80 billion was spent. The launch of the airline, with Ethiopian colors, sparked controversy as it was perceived as a national carrier despite the involvement of an Ethiopian airline.
Ongoing Controversy ,The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently stated that Nigerian Air is still in the initial stage of the five-phase process to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for commercial operations. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have consistently opposed the project, citing concerns about its impact on the economy and existing jobs.
