The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has launched an investigation into Mayfield Specialist Hospital, located in Suncity Estate, Lokogoma. This move comes after a tragic vehicular accident occurred in Abuja on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

Mayfield Specialist Hospital’s response and subsequent actions following the accident have become a subject of controversy and concern from a consumer protection perspective. The FCCPC has received complaints and engaged with the hospital, leading to the decision to investigate the matter further.
Objectives of the Investigation
The FCCPC’s investigation aims to determine the adequacy or potential failures in responses from relevant stakeholders involved in the emergency situation. The focus is on consumer protection under the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Act 2018 (FCCPA). The ultimate goal is to prevent similar undesirable outcomes in the future and enforce appropriate consequences, if necessary, under the FCCPA. It should be noted that the investigation excludes considerations regarding the professional conduct of licensed professionals involved in the incident’s treatment or management value chain
