Billionaire Twitter owner, Elon Musk, unveiled a new Twitter logo, opting for a “minimalist art deco” X as part of a platform revamp.
Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, announced the decision on Monday by tweeting the image and the message, “X is here! Let’s proceed.”
The billionaire updated his Twitter bio to include “X.com” and altered his profile picture to the new logo.
In order to realize his idea for a brand-new type of social media network, which he has been discussing for months, Mr. Musk wants to construct a “super app” dubbed X.
The billionaire tweeted on Sunday that he planned to modify Twitter’s emblem, adding, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
Then he posted a picture of the new X branding that was displayed on the San Francisco side of the Twitter headquarters.
Musk has stated since assuming control of Twitter in October that he hopes to create an app that will provide users with a range of services outside of social media, including as peer-to-peer payments, an idea that is similar to the immensely popular WeChat app in China.
Users’ reactions to the new logo were mixed, and confusion about what tweets would now be named arose. Marketing and branding experts warned that the makeover faced the risk of losing years of Twitter’s reputation.
