Nigerian Army Rescues Chibok Schoolgirl from Terrorist Captivity

  1. Rescue of Saratu Dauda: The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued Saratu Dauda, another Chibok schoolgirl who escaped from the clutches of Ukuba terrorists in the Sambisa forest, Borno State. The 25-year-old Dauda was taken into custody by ground troops on May 6, 2023, and has been freed from her captors.
  2. Details of Captivity: Maj-Gen Ibrahim Ali, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, revealed that Saratu Dauda was married to Abu Yusuf, an expert in Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) associated with Boko Haram. She had three children with her forced husband but managed to leave them behind as she found her way out of the forest.
  3. Ongoing Efforts and Rehabilitation: General Ali assured that efforts were underway to rescue Dauda’s children from her husband. Saratu Dauda has been transferred to the Maimalari military hospital for intensive care before being handed over to the state government. Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, stated that the state government would sponsor Dauda’s education, ensuring she completes both secondary and university education in the state. Additionally, she will undergo rehabilitation at a center in Maiduguri, joining others in training programs to become self-reliant and contribute to society.
