President Tinubu Affirms Africa's Strength and Rejects Notion of New Scramble for Continent

During the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union held in Nairobi, Kenya, President Bola Tinubu emphasized Africa’s resilience and determination to overcome historical exploitation and propel the continent towards progress. Addressing his counterparts, President Tinubu highlighted Africa’s strength and the commitment of its leaders to harness the continent’s vast resources for the betterment of their respective countries.

President Tinubu firmly declared that the forces that plundered Africa in the past and those seeking to hinder its progress today would face significant resistance. He stated that Africa’s spirit remains strong and resolute, with a collective determination to ensure that the atrocities of the past are not repeated. Tinubu firmly asserted that Africa’s rich history should guide its path to a prosperous future.

In his address titled “Address on Status of Regional Integration in ECOWAS,” President Tinubu emphasized the importance of overcoming challenges and focusing on inclusive growth, good governance, and leveraging the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area. He rejected the notion of a new scramble for Africa, noting that it resembled the exploitative practices of the past. President Tinubu called for strong governance to safeguard Africa’s future and protect it from past exploitations.

Highlighting the need for proactive measures, President Tinubu underscored the potential disruptions and uncertainties of the world economy. He urged Africans to forge ahead, not succumbing to passivity or being mere observers of their fate. Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties faced but emphasized the importance of active engagement and resilience in achieving progress.

As the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to upholding democracy in the region. He announced plans to strengthen ECOWAS’ Standby Force to deter coups and combat terrorism, recognizing that stability and conflict resolution are vital for implementing economic initiatives effectively.

President Tinubu emphasized that discussions on economic matters must consider the instability and conflicts affecting many African states. He highlighted the interconnectedness of governance, security, and economic progress, stressing the need for comprehensive approaches to address the challenges faced by the continent.

President Tinubu’s address showcased Africa’s determination to chart its own course and build a prosperous future, anchored in good governance, unity, and resilience.
