Alhaji Muhammad Kailani, the National Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Network in the previous election, has urged President Bola Tinubu to initiate a thorough probe into the tenure of deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, during his time as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Kailani emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities and management under Sanusi’s leadership.

Allegations of Misconduct

Kailani expressed concerns over recent appeals made by Sanusi for the release of the current CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, who was arrested. He questioned Sanusi’s motives, suggesting that the calls were not in the best interest of Nigerians but rather an attempt to conceal irregularities that occurred during his own tenure as CBN governor. Sanusi was removed from his position by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014 due to allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Selective Disbursement of Funds

The Tinubu Network Coordinator also criticized what he referred to as “selective disbursement” of the CBN’s Anchor Borrower Fund, which was designed to support rice farmers. Kailani raised concerns about the allocation of funds under Emefiele’s leadership, claiming that genuine farmers were neglected while the money was directed toward setting up industries owned by Emefiele’s relatives. He stressed the importance of utilizing stolen funds for the nation’s prosperity, development, and the improvement of education and employment opportunities for future generations.
