Wole Soyinka Stands by Davido
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has advised Nigerian Afrobeat star, Davido, to ignore calls demanding an apology over his controversial music video. The video, featuring his signee, Logos Olori, sparked mixed reactions, particularly from Muslim devotees who found certain scenes offensive.
Controversial Music Video
The music video for Logos Olori’s new record, ‘Jaye Lo,’ caused a stir online, with a specific scene depicting men resembling praying mallams dancing in front of a mosque instead of praying. This scene triggered criticism and demands for an apology from some Muslim devotees.
Soyinka’s Defense
In response to the calls for an apology, Wole Soyinka released a statement on Tuesday, asserting that Davido does not owe Muslims an apology. He cited previous offensive comments made by former Governor Nasir El Rufai against Christians without being asked to apologize, emphasizing that the music video was not responsible for actual acts of violence in the past.
