Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy Faces Retrial for Sexual Offences

Retrial Commences

French footballer Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City player, is set to begin his retrial at Chester Crown Court in northwest England. He faces one count of rape and one count of attempted rape. This follows his previous trial where the jury failed to reach verdicts on these two charges.

Not Guilty Verdicts and New Trial Date

In his earlier trial that concluded in January, Mendy was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against four women. However, the jury could not reach verdicts on the two charges related to two different women. The judge promptly scheduled a new trial to commence on Monday to address these outstanding charges.

Denial of Charges and Future Outlook

Mendy has consistently denied all the charges brought against him. As the not guilty verdicts were announced in January, Mendy showed relief by covering his face with his hands. With his contract with Manchester City set to expire at the end of the month, reports suggest that it is unlikely to be renewed. Mendy aims to clear his name regarding the remaining charges and focus on rebuilding his life.
