Senate Approves President Tinubu’s Appointment of Special Advisers

In a swift response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request, the Senate has granted approval for the appointment of 20 special advisers. The President’s appeal was read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during a session in the upper house of the legislature. Although the identities of the potential special advisers were not disclosed in the letter, the Senate promptly granted the request.

 

Speedy Approval The request for the appointment of special advisers received speedy approval from the Senate. Stressing the importance of the President having a team to work with, Senate President Ahmad Lawan emphasized the “utmost urgency” of the matter. As no specific names were mentioned in the request, the Senate decided to grant approval without delay.

 

President Tinubu’s Cabinet Selections President Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29th, has wasted no time in making key appointments. Alongside the appointment of 20 special advisers, he recently announced Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as Chief of Staff. Additionally, Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, was named Deputy Chief of Staff. These appointments demonstrate President Tinubu’s proactive approach to forming his cabinet.

 

George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) During a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), President Tinubu appointed George Akume, a former governor of Benue State and recently-retired minister of special duties, to the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This appointment showcases the President’s focus on selecting experienced individuals to key positions in his government.
