Why Are My Photos So Large? 8 Common Reasons
A modern phone can create a beautiful image that is also several megabytes in size. That is not necessarily a problem with the phone. It is often the result of high dimensions, detailed scenes, editing data and a format designed to preserve a lot of information.
1. Your camera captures huge dimensions
More pixels mean more information. A camera image designed for cropping or printing is naturally going to be larger than a small web thumbnail.
2. The scene contains lots of detail
Leaves, hair, grass, crowds and textured surfaces are harder to compress efficiently than flat backgrounds.
3. The image has been edited
Editing software can change the encoding or save an additional copy. Different export settings can produce very different file sizes from the same visual image.
4. You are sending the original when a smaller copy would do
