Over 427,000 Nigerians in Diaspora Registered for National Identification Numbers

Diasporan Nigerians with NINs reach 25.17%: The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reported that the percentage of diasporan Nigerians with National Identification Numbers (NINs) has reached 25.17% as of May 2023. Since the launch of the diaspora enrolment exercise in 2019, NIMC has successfully registered 427,962 diasporan Nigerians, enabling them to benefit from NIN-related services.

 

World Bank confirms 1.7 million Nigerians living abroad: According to the World Bank’s report titled ‘The World Development Report 2023: Migrants, refugees, and societies,’ there are approximately 1.7 million Nigerians living in the diaspora. The report also reveals that Nigeria is home to nearly 1.3 million immigrants and serves as the origin for 1.7 million emigrants, highlighting the significant presence of Nigerians globally.

 

NIMC captures over 100 million Nigerians: In an update provided by NIMC on May 27, 2023, it was announced that the commission has successfully captured over 100 million Nigerians in its database. Among the registered individuals, 43.28 million are females, while 56.75 million are males. Notably, Lagos State has the highest cumulative enrolment figure, surpassing 10.9 million, followed by Kano, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo as the top states with significant NIN enrolments.
