Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has suffered a loss of over N700 million in one day due to the recent activities of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), which grounded their daily operations. This caused massive flight disruption and raised questions from Nigerians as to the rationality behind the unions’ actions. The airline had recently volunteered to airlift stranded Nigerians in war-torn Sudan to the Abuja airport with its Boeing 777 aircraft at no cost. Stakeholders have faulted the organized unions’ action and called on Air Peace to sue the NLC and TUC. Meanwhile, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has directed the unions to stay away from the aviation industry. The airline management has raised concerns over the deliberate massive disruption of its operation by the unions, and stakeholders have insisted that the airline should set up a legal team to address the issue in court.
