The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again invited the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, for questioning regarding corruption allegations against him.
The invitation comes amidst reports that President-elect Bola Tinubu plans to support Akpabio’s bid for Senate presidency. The allegations against Akpabio include the perpetration of a N40 billion fraud during his tenure as head of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and over N86 billion contract scams.
The EFCC had previously arrested Akpabio in connection with the alleged theft of N108.1 billion of Akwa Ibom funds. Akpabio’s lawyer had previously cited the Senator-elect’s health issues as grounds for rescheduling the interview, which has now been scheduled for May 9, 2023.
