Elderly Man Endures Harassment and Extortion by Alleged Task Force Officials in Lagos

In a shocking encounter, seventy-seven-year-old retiree, Mr. Dotun Falua, shares the distressing ordeal he faced when confronted by individuals who claimed to be local government task force officials during a brief visit to a friend’s place in Lagos.

Trapped in a web of extortion, Falua and his driver found themselves targeted by men alleging a traffic offense and demanding an exorbitant fine of N55,000 for obstruction. Despite earnest pleas and explanations of innocence, the officials callously withheld the car until the payment was made.

The incident sheds light on an ongoing problem in the area, with residents confirming the activities of these men who allegedly have connections with the Isolo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA). Even as previous complaints have been raised, a senior government official acknowledges the issue, emphasizing that local governments lack the authority to collect fines for traffic offenses.
