Osita Chidoka, former Aviation Minister, criticized the Federal Government for the nation’s security problems in a recent interview on the Channels Television program “Roadmap 2023.” Chidoka, a PDP member, stated that the ruling APC has failed in its core mandate of securing lives and properties since taking office.
He highlighted that the Federal Government controls most security agencies and stated that they have failed in their single responsibility as stated in the Constitution of Nigeria. He called for a strategy in the recruitment and training of security personnel, specifically addressing the issue of welfare for those who lose their lives in active service.
In advocating for community policing, Chidoka called for cooperation between local authorities and the Federal Government. He emphasized that if the PDP wins the February 25 presidential elections, a revamp of the security sector will be a top priority. He expressed concern over the lack of diversity in the appointment of security chiefs and stressed the need for the Federal Government to be responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
