The case involving Uche George and Ajayi Kolawole showcases the alleged instances of assault and theft, which are taken seriously under the laws of Ekiti State. The court’s decision to grant bail allows the defendant to await further legal proceedings while ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to secure his appearance. The adjournment of the case to a later date provides sufficient time for both the prosecution and defense to prepare their arguments and present their evidence.

Key Highlights:

  1. Alleged Assault and Theft: The Ekiti State police have brought charges against a 32-year-old man, Uche George, in the Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting and stealing from one Ajayi Kolawole. According to the police prosecutor, George is accused of physically attacking Kolawole with blows, causing harm to his body. Additionally, he allegedly stole an Infinix Hot 12i smartphone valued at N80,000, belonging to Kolawole.
  2. Legal Proceedings and Charges: During the court session on Wednesday, Inspector Celeb Leramo, the police prosecutor, presented the case against George. He stated that the offenses committed by the defendant are punishable under Sections 185 and 302 of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021. The charges highlight the gravity of the alleged assault and theft, which have led to the legal action taken against George.
  3. Bail Granted and Next Court Date: The defendant’s counsel, Luke Mbam, requested the court to grant George bail on reasonable terms and assured the court of providing a credible surety. In response, Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N25,000, along with one surety. The court adjourned the case to June 29 for further proceedings and hearing.
