Nigerian Air Force to Overhaul Operations as Military High Command Vows to Sustain Actions Against Insurgents

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has unveiled plans for a significant overhaul of its operations to accommodate the dynamic nature of the current operational environment. This development comes as the military high command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustain air and ground operations against insurgents, armed bandits, and various non-state actors across the nation.

During a weekly operations briefing held at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force in Abuja, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, stressed the urgent need for personnel to intensify their efforts in eradicating all forms of criminality from society. While acknowledging the importance of employing non-kinetic means to engage aggrieved individuals, which falls beyond the military’s scope, he underscored the necessity of maintaining air and ground operations.

Air Vice Marshal Abubakar further revealed that the overhaul of the operational environment had become a pressing priority to optimize the joint efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies. However, he emphasized that the success of this operational transformation relies heavily on the attitudinal change of all NAF personnel, highlighting that without the right mindset, any overhaul would be futile.

Expressing commendation for the dedication and commitment of NAF personnel involved in counterterrorism operations, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar called for redoubled efforts in eradicating all forms of criminal activities from society. He also pledged to foster an all-inclusive leadership style, ensuring that every member of the NAF is carried along and that welfare, infrastructure development, and operational needs are given due consideration.

In a statement issued by NAF Spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Chief of Air Staff’s command philosophy was described as aligning with the vision and mission of the AFN as outlined in the 2017 National Defence Policy document. This philosophy aims to foster synergy of purpose, improve jointness, cooperation, and esprit de corps within the NAF. It underscores the importance of accomplishing assigned missions, unifying the various components of the NAF, and safeguarding the welfare of all personnel.

As the Nigerian Air Force embarks on its comprehensive overhaul, the nation’s security landscape awaits the impact of these strategic measures, which aim to strengthen operational capabilities and effectively address the challenges posed by insurgents and armed bandits. The success of this transformation will depend on the collective commitment and concerted efforts of all personnel involved, as Nigeria strives to create a safer and more secure environment for its citizens.
