Army Encourages Surrender
The General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army Sokoto, Major General Godwin Mutkut, stated that the army has been giving tough resistance to terrorists in Zamfara State. He urged the bandits to drop their weapons and surrender to the troops. The military has been conducting operations in troubled areas like Zurmi, Shinkafi, Tsafe, Dansadau, and other locations, dislodging the terrorists from their hideouts.
Bandits Targeting Soft Targets
General Mutkut highlighted that the bandits have shifted their focus to soft targets, particularly innocent citizens in villages and on highways. The military has adopted a proactive approach by going after the bandits in their hideouts rather than engaging in negotiations. The general emphasized that surrendering is the only viable option for the bandits to save themselves.
Community Vigilance and Assistance
To enhance security in Zamfara State, General Muktuk advised district heads and communities to form groups that can protect their communities and provide immediate assistance in case of distress. This proactive measure will help bridge the gap between the arrival of military forces and the initial response to security threats.
