Nigerian Federal Civil Service to Implement Performance-Based Pay System from 2025

Performance-Based Pay System

The Nigerian federal government plans to introduce a performance-related pay system in the federal civil service starting from 2025. The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, announced this during a briefing on the 2023 Civil Service Week.

Promotion Based on Performance

Yemi-Esan also informed that promotion in the civil service will be linked to workers’ performance. The plan aims to encourage a results-driven work culture and improve efficiency within the federal service.

Human Resource Management Professionalization

The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation plans to professionalize human resource management in the federal service by 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness and expertise of HR practices across government agencies and departments.
