Nigerian Navy Denies Refusal to Hand Over

The Nigerian Navy has dismissed reports claiming that Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the former Chief of Naval Staff, refused to hand over to his successor, Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla. In a statement signed by Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, the Navy’s spokesperson, it clarified that the alleged development was false and described the media reports as misleading and capable of spreading falsehood.

Traditional Handover Procedure

The Nigerian Navy emphasized that the handover of leadership follows a procedural approach, similar to other military branches. Upon the announcement of a change in leadership, the outgoing Chief of Naval Staff is expected to provide a detailed briefing to the incoming Chief, tour key naval facilities, and perform the ceremonial lowering of the ensign. The Navy stated that the scheduled handover ceremony is set to take place on Friday as part of the longstanding naval tradition.

Importance of Correct Information

The Nigerian Navy urged the public to disregard the malicious publication and erroneous information, emphasizing that they were a product of the reporter’s imagination. It advised members of the public to rely on accurate sources of information and assured them that the handover process would proceed according to established protocols.
