Police Rescue 58 Kidnap Victims in Kogi State Shootout

In a successful rescue operation, police operatives have freed 58 kidnap victims from the Udulu Forest, in Gegu LGA of Kogi State. Here are three key highlights from the news:

Overpowering the kidnappers in a shootout

According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, the bandits and kidnappers engaged the security team in a shootout when they were spotted. But the police team overpowered them, causing the kidnappers to escape with bullet injuries, leaving behind the victims.

One death, but many saved

Tragically, one kidnap victim identified as Tama Jonathan died during the gunfight, but the other 58 rescued victims are being stabilized in the hospital and will soon be reunited with their families. Josephine Adeh noted that Tama Jonathan’s remains have been released to his family for burial.

Sustaining efforts to combat violent crimes

The rescue operation is part of ongoing efforts by the command’s leadership to combat violent crimes in the FCT, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators to book. The PPRO promised the command’s commitment to sustain joint operations with other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters from local communities to prevent threats to the safety and security of FCT residents.

The FCT Police Command Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, emphasized that the command would continue to rescue any resident held hostage by criminals and bring the perpetrators to book, ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents.
