South-East leaders, including governors and elected members of the National Assembly, convened in Abuja on Monday to address the pressing security challenges in the region. Led by the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the leaders emphasized the need for assistance from the Federal Government to effectively address the security concerns.
The meeting brought together leaders from diverse political backgrounds, and discussions were conducted behind closed doors. Following the deliberations, Governor Uzodinma announced the resolution to seek the intervention of the Federal Government in addressing the security issues faced by the South-East region.
Prominent figures in attendance included the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and former Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige. Despite their political differences, the leaders expressed their unwavering determination to overcome the challenges hindering the region’s development, extending beyond the sit-at-home order imposed by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the acts of violence perpetrated by gunmen.
The meeting signifies a collective effort by South-East leaders to collaborate with the Federal Government and devise effective strategies to restore peace and stability in the region. The leaders aim to tackle various obstacles to development, foster unity, and prioritize the well-being of the people, transcending political affiliations
