Dismissal of Trigger-Happy Police Officer
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has granted approval for the dismissal of Inspector Kabiru Odeyemi, following his alleged involvement in the shooting and subsequent death of 24-year-old generator technician Idris Bakare. The incident took place on Sunday, May 28, during a party in the Oregun area of Lagos State. Odeyemi, attached to Alausa Police Division, reportedly stormed the event alongside his colleagues.
Tragic Shooting
Witnesses at the party described how the trigger-happy policemen harassed the partygoers and fired shots indiscriminately. Tragically, one of the bullets struck Idris Bakare, who later succumbed to his injuries. An investigation conducted by the police revealed that Odeyemi was responsible for firing the fatal shot that claimed Bakare’s life.
Arraignment and Commitment to Justice
Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced in a statement that the recommendation for Inspector Kabiru Odeyemi’s dismissal had been approved, clearing the path for his arraignment on Friday, July 7, 2023. The Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, expressed his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring civility, and respecting human life in the state of Lagos.
