Two Killed, 12 Injured in Kogi State Road Crash, FRSC Says

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State has reported that a road accident that occurred on Sunday claimed the lives of two people while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the state. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a Toyota Hiace bus conveying 18 passengers including the driver was involved in the crash, which was caused by overspeeding and a tyre burst. The FRSC State Sector Commander, Stephen Dawulung, said the accident occurred around 3.30 am at Irepeni village along Zariagi-Okene Road. He added that the injured were taken to Kekere Hospital, Kabba Junction, Zariagi by the FRSC personnel who carried out the rescue operation, while the corpses of the deceased were claimed by their families for burial. Dawulung commiserated with the families of the victims and advised drivers to avoid night journeys, speed, and the use of worn-out or expired tyres. He also urged motorists to always take a 40-minute rest after every four hours of driving to prevent fatigue and drowsiness. The sector commander appreciated the military for providing security cover during the rescue operation and called for more collaboration among security agencies to save lives and property on highways.
