WhatsApp Set to Introduce Usernames Instead Of Phone numbers

A new feature that will enable users to identify contacts using usernames rather than merely phone numbers is apparently being developed for WhatsApp, the well-known messaging app that Meta owns.

The latest development was disclosed by WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates on Thursday.

According to the trusted website, the feature is currently under development and not yet ready for beta testers.

If the new feature is made available, it will be found in the app’s settings, specifically in a section under WhatsApp Settings > Profile.

Users will be able to protect their accounts even more thanks to this added degree of protection.

Given that there are 2 billion users of the messaging app at the moment, it is unclear what procedure the Meta-owned app will implement to allow users to choose a username.

The company made no comments regarding the report or provided any information regarding the feature.

Users of Telegram, a messaging service that competes with WhatsApp, can choose to hide their contacts and only see their usernames.
