Google’s video streaming service YouTube increased the cost of its monthly and yearly premium plans in the US for the first time since the launch of the subscription service in 2018.
According to the company’s website on Thursday, the YouTube Premium plan would cost $13.99 a month in the U.S.
We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers in the U.S. to continue delivering great service and features.
We believe this new price reflects the value of YouTube Premium which allows subscribers to enjoy ad-free YouTube with background and offline play and uninterrupted access to over 100 million songs with the YouTube Music app,” a company spokesperson said.
The increment is $2 shy from the previous price as its yearly package now costs $139.99, a $20 increase.
Members who originally signed up through Google Play five years ago, including those who did so, would receive three further months of subscription at the time.
