Resignations of Party Chairman and Secretary

Last month, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Sen Iyiola Omisore, the Chairman, and Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), respectively, resigned from their appointments. Their resignations sparked subtle political moves among party stakeholders, as the search for their successors commenced.

President Tinubu’s Closed-Door Meeting

Ahead of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, President Bola Tinubu convened a closed-door meeting with the national caucus of the APC at the State House in Abuja. The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, and journalists were barred from attending, but speculations arose that it is likely connected to the politics of leadership succession within the party.

Leadership Succession in Focus

One of the significant issues to be discussed during the meeting is the appointment of the new National Chairman and Secretary of the APC. Various contenders, including former Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Ganduje and ex Nasarawa state governor Senator Tanko Almakura, are in the running for these vital positions. The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the party’s direction and future leadership landscape. Prominent figures attending the meeting include serving governors, past national chairmen and secretaries, former President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abass, among others.
