President Bola Tinubu Sends Delegation to Niger Republic
In response to the ongoing political impasse in Niger Republic, President Bola Tinubu, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has dispatched a three-man delegation to Niger with a mandate to swiftly resolve the situation.
Delegation Comprises Prominent Figures
The delegation, led by former Nigerian Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), includes the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray. Their mission is to engage all stakeholders and present the demands of the ECOWAS leadership to the coup leaders in Niger.
Separate Delegation to Engage with Libya and Algeria
In addition to the delegation heading to Niger, President Tinubu has also sent a separate delegation led by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe to engage with the leaders of Libya and Algeria regarding the Niger crisis. The goal is to pursue an African-focused resolution, prioritizing democracy and regional peace over adopting external geopolitical positions.
