States Respond to Surging Diphtheria Cases with Vigilance and Immunization Efforts

Kano State Establishes Treatment Centers as Diphtheria Cases Surge

The Kano State Government has set up three treatment centers as the number of diphtheria cases surpasses 130. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, states that they are taking necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease, emphasizing the need for timely medical assistance and vaccination.

Kwara State Extends Immunization to Safeguard Against Diphtheria and Polio

Dr. Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of Kwara State’s Healthcare Development Agency, announces the extension of immunization to 388 healthcare facilities across the state to protect against diphtheria and other childhood diseases, including polio.

Government Urged to Intensify Awareness Campaigns on Diphtheria

As diphtheria continues to spread in some parts of Nigeria, Prof. Adekunle Olowe, from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, calls on government at all levels to intensify awareness campaigns. He stresses the importance of educating the public, especially in rural areas, about diphtheria symptoms to prevent further spread of the disease.
