In a surprising move, eleven commissioners in Sokoto State have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The shift in loyalty came after the announcement of the state’s Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, who resigned from the PDP.
This news of defection made headlines just a few hours before the presidential campaign rally of the APC. The party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kassim Shettima, are scheduled to arrive in Sokoto State on Thursday for the rally.
During the event, the defectors are expected to be officially welcomed into the APC by none other than President Muhammadu Buhari. This mass defection is expected to bring a significant boost to the ruling party’s support in the state.
